Alaska’s Lonesome Dove Outfitters
Welcomes you to Alaska 2009 Hunting Parties

Once again we would like to thank all of the hunters who came up and hunted with us this past year. As the almighty dollar gets more precious, we are ever so grateful for your business and continue to work hard to give you the best bang for your buck. We had a full docket this year except for 2 cancellations which were quickly rebooked.

As usual, the weather had a lot to do with our success, and it was pretty good for the most part. The spring was not nearly as cold as the previous one, and consequently we had many bears moving. We were 3 for 3 on both brown bears and black bears this spring but unfortunately one of the brownies was hit and not recovered. Our fall bear hunts were a little more disappointing as the salmon runs were relatively weak across the entire State. Without there being large concentrations of salmon, the bears were pretty scattered and hard to find. We had our opportunities, but it was difficult to connect, especially with Archery equipment.

Our mountain goat hunts went very well with 10 hunters taking 9 goats. One of the archery goats was hit and not recovered, and miraculously found by another hunter almost a month later. There was not much to recover except for the horns, but Kyle was glad to get them anyway. We also took a very nice black bear later in the fall along with a wolverine. I have applied for and should receive my Master Guide License for 2010. It doesn’t give me any more opportunity for how the business is run, but allows me to use the title in Advertising. A registered guide must operate successfully for at least 12 of the last 15 years to use the title of Master Guide. It speaks to the longevity of the Outfitter.

We are also offering more Brown Bear hunts on both Hinchinbrook and Montague Islands for both the spring and fall. These will be comfortable boat based hunts using smaller boats to access the many hunting areas. Greg Jennen of Glacier Mountain Outfitters and I have the exclusive guiding opportunity on the National Forest on both of these Islands and we will be working together on these hunts. Both Islands have good populations of trophy bears and they see very little hunting pressure.

As always, feel free to contact us for more information, a reference list, or a DVD. We are keeping our prices the same for 2010, and promise to offer the same high quality you should expect!
