Alaska - Brown Bear Combination Hunts

We offer 10 day brown bear hunts in both the spring starting around May 1 and in the fall starting on Sept. 1.

The spring hunts are done in combination with a black bear for no additional charge other than your tag. The fall hunts are done in combination with a moose, if the client draws the tag for the area, or with a mountain goat. Brown bear tags are unlimited in unit 6 and the bag limit is one bear per year.

The cost of this hunt is $16,500 and the trophy fee for either the moose or the mountain goat is $4500. Nine to ten foot bears are not uncommon as you will see from the tracks as we are walking on the river banks. The country is brushy though, and the best way to hunt these giants is to get into a good vantage point and wait for them. We can accommodate both rifle and archery hunters, but the bowhunters need to be serious about what they are doing. The hunt is conducted primarily out of a comfortable tent camp with cots, lanterns, and home cooked meals. Occasionally, we will set up a spike camp for a couple of days in a remote area to wait out a large bear. The guides, including myself, are very experienced bear hunters and are quite knowledgeable about the specific country we are hunting. We live in gor-tex or dry plus chest waders and use inflatable rafts with outboard motors to access most of the country. Shots are generally fairly close, under 100 yards, but they can be quick. The hunters must be very proficient with their weapon of choice and know when to take a good shot. We are ready to provide backup shots if necessary, but do not automatically shoot after you shoot as I hear some guides do. There is a $950 round trip charter fee and in-town lodging runs about $120/night in Cordova. Your hunting license will cost $85, a brown bear tag is $500, a black bear tag is $225, and a moose tag is $400. These are your only costs other than your airfare to Cordova. We do not have any hidden costs or charges. We will prepare your trophy to take back with you or arrange to have it shipped to you or to your taxidermist, whichever you prefer.
