Alaska’s Lonesome Dove Outfitters
Welcomes you to Alaska 2001 Hunting Parties

October 27 brought the end to another successful season for Lonesome Dove Outfitters. As is typical with hunting, things did not always go as planned, but most hunts turned out very well. I have scaled down my operation somewhat to provide a little more flexibility in scheduling and modifying hunts to suit the current weather conditions and habits of the trophies we are pursuing. The more I hunt, the more I realize how important it is to be able to adjust to changing circumstances, and be ready to capitalize on opportunities before they show up. Hindsight is always 20/20, but my foresight seems to get better all of the time. My goal is to continue to provide a very personalized service, and try to accommodate each hunter in the best way possible. I am constantly exploring new country with difficult access so that we will be hunting in optimum conditions. I will continue to personally guide almost all of my clients, and only hire top notch, experienced guides for the few hunts that can be conducted with 2 hunters out of one base camp. I hear the same story from many clients about their hunt that was booked after talking to some overzealous Outfitter about the quality of his country and the experience of his guides. They then arrive in camp to find that they are being guided by some youngster who has less time in the field than the client does. I do not run my business that way, and encourage you to contact my references about their hunts. This is good advice for booking with anyone. I will be increasing my rates for 2002 and 2003, as I too must earn a living. However, I prefer to do it with quality instead of quantity. Hunting in Alaska is expensive, and as with most things, you get what you pay for. The guys offering the cheap hunts are usually in the mass production mode, taking 30 to 40 clients per year. Very few areas can support that kind of pressure. If an Outfitter has quality game and competent guides, he can get top price for his hunts. Once again, check the references. I will not make any claims that I cannot honestly stand behind and promise to give you 100% effort every day of your hunt.

On a lighter note, we took 4 trophies this year that will make the Boone and Crockett awards category. My only sheep client, David Ooten, took a 39 1/4 inch ram that scored 162 1/8. Roy Keefer took a 10 inch Mountain Goat scoring 49 points, and Paul Dorsch's 10 1/8 inch Mountain Goat scored 48 3/8. I personally harvested a 9' 3" Brown Bear with a 27-inch skull. I ran into him right at the end of the spring season long after my clients had left while I was scouting out some new country. He was not the biggest bear I saw, but gave me an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. The hide quality was fantastic even though he was taken on May 30, the second to the last day of season.

Enjoy the pictures and feel free to contact me either through the e-mail or the toll free number if you have any questions or would like a reference list.

Good Luck and Good Hunting!
